European Trucking Fleets Begin Using ATDynamics TrailerTail Technology
Nov 21 13
ATDynamics announced the launch of several new distribution partners throughout Europe to bring its patented, fuel saving TrailerTail(R) and EcoSkirt System(R) aerodynamic technologies to the European market. TrailerTails are mounted to a semi-trailer's rear doors and reduce aerodynamic drag at the flat rear surface of the trailer. Their patented origami design allows the devices to completely collapse out of the way when the semi-trailer doors are opened to allow the unhindered loading and unloading of cargo. The EcoSkirt System is a flexible under-trailer side skirt that reduces aerodynamic drag under the trailer by directing airflow smoothly to the back of the trailer. Emons Group, Dobbe Transport, Ewals CargoCare, and Transport Van Overveld are the first European fleets to utilize TrailerTail technology in Europe. Emons Group has placed the TrailerTail Trident, a one meter boat tail device, on their shorter specialty trailers running trans-continental routes. The TrailerTail Trident has been proven in independent, third party, SAE Type II J1321 fuel economy testing to reduce fuel consumption by five percent. In addition to the Eco50 and Trident devices, ATDynamics will offer the maximum efficiency, full length TrailerTail Eco120, a 122 centimeter boat tail currently in operation in the United States. The longer, more efficient TrailerTail device is pending regulatory approval by the European Commission. The draft legislation, which would legalize their use on maximum length trailers on European roadways, is expected to come for a vote by mid-2014.
ATDynamics Introduces Automatic Deployment System for TrailerTail
Oct 20 13
ATDynamics announced the launch of TrailerTail AutoDeploy systems at the ATA Show in Orlando, FL. Both the AutoDeploy and AutoAware systems utilize automotive radar technology found in adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance systems. The driver notification light in the AutoAware system is similar to the alert lights commonly used by tire pressure inflation systems and trailer refrigeration units to notify drivers of significant air pressure loss to tires or temperature inconsistencies. TrailerTails are SmartWay Verified and have been third party tested using SAE J1321 Type II test protocol to reduce tractor-trailer fuel consumption by over 5%, increasing tractor- trailer fuel economy by 0.3 to 0.5 miles per gallon. To date, 20,000 TrailerTails circulating on US highways have operated over one billion miles and nearly 300 US trucking fleets have deployed TrailerTail technology. TrailerTail AutoDeploy systems are available on both new and used trailers and standard TrailerTails can be upgraded with AutoDeploy systems at any time. ATDynamics also recently announced a new Deployment Sensor that is available to refrigerated trucking fleets operating satellite tracking systems that utilizes a modified door sensor to detect when a semi-trailer’s TrailerTail is properly deployed by a driver.
