American College of Physicians Key Developments
The American College of Physicians Announces Partnership with EBSCO Health
Jun 15 15
The American College of Physicians (ACP) announced a partnership with EBSCO Health. This initiative will give 141,000 ACP members complimentary access to DynaMed Plus, a new cross-platform evidence-based clinical decision support tool. ACP is contributing expertise, content, and multimedia to DynaMed Plus. DynaMed Plus provides clinicians with the ideal blend of evidence and expertise to help them determine optimal patient care paths. With DynaMed Plus, ACP members and other clinicians can quickly and seamlessly find evidence-based answers to make treatment decisions using any device from any location. ACPs clinical leadership will help to continually develop and maintain internal medicine topics that are important to ACP members. DynaMed Plus is a significant enhancement over other tools currently on the market and includes the most frequently updated evidence-based content. DynaMed Plus content is supplemented with full color images, is optimized for the way a physician works and provides extremely fast time-to-answer. Additionally, DynaMed Plus gives users thorough and transparent insights into the strength of the evidence-based data for how recommendations are made. One way ACP shows its commitment to those who practice internal medicine is by sharing the most updated medical knowledge with them. By working with EBSCO Health and DynaMed Plus, ACP is ensuring that its members have access to evidence-based content that is updated daily, is analyzed systematically through the lens of an expert editorial team focused on a balanced review of the best evidence and provides clinically relevant information in a format that allows physicians to answer questions in the fastest time from any device. Some content from ACPs current clinical reference tool, Smart Medicine, such as tables, images, and graphics, will be included in DynaMed Plus. Individual paid Smart Medicine subscribers who wish to convert to DynaMed Plus may do so beginning January 1, 2016, when Smart Medicine will be discontinued.
American College of Physicians, CECity, and Pfizer collaborate to Increase Adult Immunization Rates
May 15 14
The American College of Physicians (ACP), CECity, and Pfizer Inc. have announced a new initiative designed to increase adult immunization rates by assisting physicians and other health care providers in strongly recommending appropriate vaccination and tracking adult immunization rates for quality measurement and improvement. The three organizations made the announcement during the annual National Adult Influenza and Immunization Summit meeting being held May 13-15 in Atlanta. The goal of this public health initiative is to meet the National Vaccine Advisory Committee's standards for adult immunization. The standards call on all health care providers to assess vaccine status at each visit, strongly recommend vaccinations to patients, administer or refer for immunization, and document vaccination. Current vaccination rates for recommended vaccines in the U.S. fall far short of those goals, with all rates well below 70% and fraught with racial and ethnic disparities.(i) The program will encourage health care providers and practice teams to engage in ACP's Adult Immunization Registry available through CECity's MedConcert(R) portal, a cloud-based performance improvement platform. With funding from Pfizer and the experience and resources from the three organizations, the program will be piloted in two states with the goal to broaden the effort nationwide.
