UNC Charlotte Announces Board Appointments

UNC Charlotte has added health-care executive Susan DeVore and real estate developer Fred Klein to its board of trustees. Both were appointed to four-year terms by N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory. DeVore has led Charlotte-based Premier, a health-care alliance, since 2009 and was named Queens University of Charlotte's 2014 Business Woman of the Year. Klein is senior managing partner at Childress Klein.
UNC Charlotte Appoints Sharon Decker to the Board of Trustees

Former North Carolina Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker has been appointed to UNC Charlotte's board of trustees. Decker, a former Duke Energy executive, is currently the president of NURAY Media. She will begin her four-year term on UNCC's board on July 1. Decker stepped down as Commerce Secretary after almost two years on the job. As secretary, Decker had focused on landing, major prizes in the economic development world because they also attract suppliers and logistics companies. In September, she in a bid to bring more jobs to the state. Decker still serves on the boards of Matthews-based Family Dollar as well as Charlotte-based Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated. full four-year term.
UNC Charlotte Completes $35 Million Portal Building

UNC Charlotte is putting the finishing touches on its $35 million building, which is designed to promote entrepreneurship and collaboration with private industry partners. The four-story, 96,000-square-foot facility is called the PORTAL building, an acronym for Partnership, Outreach and Research to Accelerate Learning. It was designed to stimulate business growth and job creation while promoting research and innovation. The facility sits near the Tryon Street entrance of the Charlotte Research Institute, part of UNCC's main campus. It will be dedicated on Feb. 28. The building was designed with a contemporary feel, combining glass, wood and steel. It features a four-story atrium surrounded by offices and meeting rooms.
