Education Development Center, Inc. Introduce New Book Making Sense of Algebra: Developing Students' Mathematical Habits of Mind at Mathematics Conferences in Boston to Be Held April 13-18, 2015

Education Development Center, Inc. will introduce its new book, Making Sense of Algebra: Developing Students' Mathematical Habits of Mind, published by Heinemann at the following conferences: National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics Annual Conference, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Meeting, and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Research Conference. In addition, 35 EDC mathematics education experts will present their work at the three conferences, to be held April 13-18 in Boston. Making Sense of Algebra, written by E. Paul Goldenberg, June Mark, Jane Kang, Mary Fries, and Tracy Cordner of EDC, and Cynthia Carter of The Rashi School, is the companion text to EDC's Transition to Algebra curriculum. Designed for teachers of grades 6-10, Making Sense of Algebra takes a 'habits of mind' approach, helping teachers learn how to teach not just the results of mathematical thinking, but also the ways of thinking that mathematically proficient individuals use to generate those results. The new book--as well as another EDC book, Bringing Math Students into the Formative Assessment Equation, by Susan Janssen Creighton, Cheryl Tobey, Emily Fagan, and Eric Karnowski, which was recently published by Corwin--will be available at EDC's booth, along with information about EDC's Mathematical Practice Institute.
