GE and KAUST Sign Agreement for Research on Gas Turbines

GE has signed a cooperative research agreement with King Abdullah University of Science & Technology, or KAUST, to reportedly undertake research on enhancing the fuel flexibility of GE's gas turbines. The collaborative research, led by Saudi-based international professionals and students from KAUST along with GE's global team, will focus on the impact of using heavy liquid fuels on advanced gas turbines. The goal of this groundbreaking study is to help advance the overall fuel flexibility of gas turbines, which in turn can positively impact power plant availability, enabling power producers to meet the growing demand for electricity in the Kingdom. According to Bill Roberts, director, KAUST Clean Combustion Center, the university's cooperative research with GE is a strong example of the academic-industry linkages KAUST fosters. The collaborative research project, scheduled to begin this year, is co-funded by GE and KAUST. Research results will be evaluated by GE experts to determine feasibility.
Boeing Opens New R1D Office in Partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology

Boeing opened a Boeing Research amp; Technology (BRamp;T) office in partnership with the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to develop aerospace technologies and support Saudi Arabia's efforts to establish knowledge-based programs and expertise. Opening a Boeing office at KAUST will enhance Boeing's ability to interact with the KAUST Industrial Cooperation Partnership (KICP) members. With a staff primarily comprised of Saudi nationals the new office will generate new jobs increase technology acumen among local youth and professionals and support environmental and social sustainability across the region.
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Appoints Jean-Lou Chameau as Next President

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) announced that, on February 16, 2013, the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Jean-Lou Chameau as the next President of KAUST. Dr. Chameau, who has served since 2006 as the President of the California Institute of Technology, will become the second President of KAUST later in 2013. A native of France, Dr. Chameau received his undergraduate education at the Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Arts et Metiers in France and later received his PhD in civil engineering at Stanford University. He has had a remarkable career in a number of US institutions. Prior to joining Caltech, he had an exemplary record as the dean of engineering and then provost at Georgia Tech.
