National Federation Of Independent Business named Anthony K. Smith as new Oregon state director. The company announced that Anthony K. Smith to lead small-business operations for association. He took a job as director of operations for the successful congressional campaign of U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar. He later would serve the newly elected congressman as his deputy district director with a special emphasis on aiding the business community with federal issues. In 2013, Anthony Smith joined NFIB, helping small-business owners and state directors in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah on a range of issues common to all and unique to each state. As state director, he will run the lobbying, political and educational operations for NFIB in Oregon, which includes the constant reminder to policymakers that small businesses are not smaller versions of big businesses, but instead have different difficulties in remaining solvent. Smith replaces Jan Meekcoms who will advocate for small businesses privately.

National Federation Of Independent Business announced that Tom Scott has joined its California office as State Director. Scott most recently was the Executive Director of California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse for nearly twenty years. He has an extensive background in both the private and public sectors. He has worked at all levels of government including positions in the offices of Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich, former State Senator John Seymour and former U.S, Senator Pete Wilson. He also served as a Special Assistant for Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Commerce under Robert Mosbacher.

National Federation Of Independent Business announced two promotions within the organization's DC office: Brad Close as Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy and Amanda Austin as Vice President of Public Policy. Brad Close joined NFIB in 2002 and previously held the position of Vice President of Public Policy. In his new role Close will oversee NFIB's political and development departments as well as NFIB's Small Business Legal
Center and Research Foundation. Amanda Austin has been with NFIB for eleven years and prior to her promotion was Director of Federal Policy for the Senate. She is also considered one of Washington's 'healthcare experts.' In her new role as NFIB's top lobbyist, Austin will oversee NFIB's lobbyist and communication teams, tax counsel and the manager of regulatory policy.
