Rider University Key Developments

Rider University and Staff Reach Tentative Deal

Rider University and its staff have struck a deal in contract negotiations, avoiding a strike as students prepare for the start of the fall semester. The tentative deal announced on September 2, 2017 provides a three-year contract for the nearly 600 professors, librarians and athletic staff. The contract still needs to be approved by the university's board of trustees and union members. A meeting is set for Sept. 14, when the union is expected to approve the deal. At the center of the weekly negotiations during the last few months have been the proposed pay and benefit cuts and increased workloads.

Investor Seeks To Acquire Westminster Choir

Rider University announced that it has a potential buyer for its Westminster Choir College that plans to keep the music school at its 23-acre campus in Princeton. The university did not name the entity, describing it as, "a potential international partner." Rider spokeswoman Kristine Brown said that the board has been reviewing proposals over the last several weeks, and will now begin negotiations and due diligence with the selected, potential buyer.

Rider University Seeks To Sell Music School

Rider University’s decision to sell Westminster Choir College has now been challenged in court by the supporters of Westminster Choir College. Rider had announced in March 2017 that it hired an outside firm to seek a buyer for its music school and campus. They also may consider selling the school to a buyer who would move it to its own campus. The decision came as Rider seeks to boost enrollment and faces a potential $13 million shortfall by 2019. A Rider spokeswoman says the university disagrees with the lawsuit's contentions.
