Drury University's athletic director of the past seven years abruptly resigned and a university-issued release noted that Pat Atwell left "to pursue other interests. However, Atwell later acknowledged that he has not accepted a new position "at this time." He declined further questions. His departure is among five non-retirements in the past year from the athletic department.

Drury University announced that it laid off 'fewer than 10 employees' and eliminated a total of 35 positions including the layoffs through retirements, consolidations and unfilled vacancies. In some instances the position eliminated was a part-time post and in some instances a full-time employee has become a part-time employee. Manuel cited declining enrollment as the main factor in the reduction in workforce. The university, a private institution, did not provide the exact number of people who were laid off.

Johnson brings nearly twenty years of experience in fundraising, development activities and strategic planning. She is an attorney who has specialized in estate and gift tax planning. Since 2003, Johnson has been president and chief executive officer of Endowment Builders.
