Webster University Signs Lease Agreement to Open New Campus in Downtown Orlando
Dec 16 15
Webster University signed a lease agreement to open a new campus in downtown Orlando. The new campus, located at 501 W. Church St., is 37,000 square feet and will open in summer 2016. This will put Webster University within walking distance of the proposed Creative Village and the proposed University of Central Florida downtown campus. There also is enough space in the new location for Webster to create collaborative programs with other community members, such as a cyber security incubator. If implemented, the incubator will connect local businesses and nonprofit organizations with students and faculty in the cyber security program who can explore how to tackle existing and emerging security issues, such as secure computer networks and protecting consumer data. The university is still considering other options for a collaborative space. Campus renovations will take place between now and the summer 2016 opening to create 11 classrooms, two computer labs, two conference rooms and 10 offices. Webster's two other Central Florida locations - 2180 W. State Road 434 in Longwood and 6750 Forum Drive in Orlando - will close and merge into the new downtown Orlando location. This will bring more resources downtown for utilization of local businesses, and will bring more students to the area who can add to the foot traffic of downtown Orlando.

Nov 13 14
Webster University is set to close three of its U.S. campuses in 2015 as a way to balance its budget. The move comes as declining student enrollment in graduate programs has led to a projected revenue shortfall.
