Kennedy Krieger Institute Plans to Open an Outpatient Facility Next Year for Children with Disabilities
Apr 30 14
The Kennedy Krieger Institute is planning to open next year on an outpatient facility for children with disabilities, due in part to an $8 million gift from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. The facility will be an addition to Kennedy Krieger's existing Outpatient Center in Baltimore, which opened on Broadway Street in 2009. The project will cost more than $8 million, but the organization doesn't yet know the total expense. The organization has not finalized how large the addition will be or when it will open. By extending the center, Kennedy Krieger will be able to offer more services for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. It will have exam and treatment rooms, space for group therapy sessions, staff offices and areas specially designed for children with autism and other disorders who benefit from environments where sensory stimuli are carefully controlled. The building will also be equipped with the technology and infrastructure necessary for telemedicine, which allows on-site physicians to confer with specialists across the country.
