East Tennessee State University Announces Board Appointments
Oct 12 16
Gov. Bill Haslam's office announced eight members of a new governing board for East Tennessee State University marking a pivotal new phase in his plan to overhaul college governance in Tennessee. Once Haslam's appointees are approved by the General Assembly in 2017, the board will have the authority to set ETSU's tuition and approve its budget, among other things. Haslam also will appoint new boards for other state colleges as part of his plan to overhaul the Tennessee Board of Regents system - which was included in this year's Focus on College and University Success, or FOCUS Act. If confirmed, board members will go through training conducted by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. The appointees to the ETSU board are: Janet Ayers, president of the Ayers Foundation; Steven DeCarlo, CEO of AmWINS Group, Inc; David Golden, senior vice president, chief legal and sustainability officer and corporate secretary for Eastman Chemical Company; Dorothy Grisham, owner/operator of an Allstate Insurance Agency; Dr. Linda Latimer, anatomic and clinical pathologist and owner of Mountain Regional Pathology; Scott Niswonger, chairman and founder of Niswonger Educational Foundation and executive chairman of Landair Transport, Inc; James Powell, founder of Powell Companies and former chair of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission; Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, owner of Ron Ramsey and Associates.
