MRIGlobal, Inc. Key Developments

Rex Investment Limited Selects MRIGlobal to Lead Study and Pilot Project

MRIGlobal has been selected by Rex Investment Limited of Tanzania to perform a feasibility study and a pilot project to provide electricity to a remote island village in Lake Victoria that has no access to electricity. The project will be partially funded by an $818,000 grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). The estimated 60-80 kWp PV-battery-diesel hybrid minigrid will provide power for up to 400 residential households in the Ukerewe District in northwestern Tanzania. MRIGlobal will be supported in various phases of the project by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), SunEdison, Enphase Energy, HOMER LLC, and Rulex Media, a local subcontractor in Tanzania. The feasibility study and related pilot project will investigate and demonstrate the use of off-grid, hybrid PV-battery storage-diesel based minigrids in remote locations that are not currently connected to the national electric power transmission and distribution system.

MRIGlobal Announces the Promotion of Robert A. Conklin as Vice President for Defense and Infrastructure and Roger K. Harris as Vice President for Global Health Security

MRIGlobal announced the promotion of Robert A. Conklin to be vice president for defense and infrastructure, and Roger K. Harris to be vice president for global health security. Both will report to the former Midwest Research Institute's president and chief executive officer, Thomas M. Sack. They will be responsible for the technical and financial performance of their respective areas. Conklin, a 25-year veteran of the institute, has been its director of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. He now will oversee biosurveillance, engineering, energy, infrastructure and chemical defense work. Harris, a nearly 30-year veteran of the institute, was associate vice president for global health security. As vice president he will oversee all aspects of research across MRIGlobal business areas of diagnostics, medical countermeasures, and product development and repository management.

MRIGlobal Wins Contract to Develop Whole Genome Sequencing Diagnostic System

MRIGlobal announced that it has been awarded a $14.8 million contract to develop an end-to-end next generation sequencing system for clinical diagnosis of infectious diseases. MRIGlobal's proposed Sample-to-Sequence system will take clinical samples (blood or saliva, for example) and generate high-quality whole genome sequences of bacteria and viruses. The diagnostic tool will be able to identify a broad range of human pathogens, from a single sample with particular emphasis on emerging pathogens and those not identifiable by available rapid diagnostic methods. With the Sample-to-Sequence system, a clinician will send a single sample to a laboratory for sequencing. The genomes uncovered in the sample will be identified against a developed database of microorganisms capable of causing infectious diseases.
