Symmetry Medical Inc. announced that the Avilla facility would be one of two United States locations to close in the near future. The Avilla location employs 129 people. A series of layoffs will begin mid-summer, culminating in the closure of the plant at the end of the year. The facility makes orthopedic implants and instruments. The other facility slated for closure is in New Bedford, Massachusetts, which will close in March of 2016. Both facilities struggled to make a profit during the last several years.
