Esco Corp. to Close Portland Plant and Lay Off 247 jobs
Nov 18 15
Esco Corp. announced that it will close one of its two Portland factories, resulting in the elimination of 177 factory jobs and an additional 70 administrative positions. The moves result from the cyclical nature of the commodities business and the high cost of running the plant. The jobs won't be eliminated until the company's main Portland foundry closes in late 2016 or early 2017.
ESCO Corp. Prepares to Shut Down Aging Production Line
Jul 21 14
ESCO Corp. will lay off as many as 70 full- and temporary employees in Portland later this year as it shutters one of its older production lines. The Portland manufacturer disclosed its plans to give affected workers, many of them long-time employees, an opportunity to adapt before the line closes at the end of the year. The decision affects about 20 full-time employees and about 50 temporary workers in Portland. It specifically applies to a line centered on molding and pouring and upper finishing for small parts. The shutdown will begin in November. Employees will be eligible to apply for other jobs with the company and full-time workers will receive outplacement assistance. All affected workers will be eligible for separation payments.
