University of Ottawa Announces Senior Appointments

The University of Ottawa announced senior appointments. Michel Laurier has been named Acting Vice-President, Academic and Provost for a two-year term beginning on July 1, 2015. Previous to this nomination, Michel Laurier had been Dean of the Faculty of Education since 2012. Michel Laurier will be taking over from Christian Detellier. Linda Pietrantonio has been named Associate Vice-President, Academic Programs for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2015. She succeeds Johanne Bourdages. Kevin Kee has been named Dean of the Faculty of Arts for a five-year term beginning August 1, 2015. He succeeds Professor Antoni Lewkowicz. Prior to this appointment, Kevin Kee was Associate Vice-President, Research (Social Sciences and Humanities) at Brock University. Raymond Leblanc has been named Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education for a maximum two-year term beginning July 1, 2015. Before this appointment, Raymond Leblanc was Vice-Dean, Research and Professional Development at the Faculty of Education. Claire Turenne-Sjolander has been named Acting Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS) for an 18-month term beginning July 1, 2015. She succeeds Tim Stanley who had been Acting Dean for nearly two years.

Tweed Marijuana Inc. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Tweed Inc. is launching collaborative research with researchers from two Canadian universities at its facility in Smiths Falls, Ontario. The recently signed memoranda of understanding with researchers from Ryerson University and the University of Ottawa will contribute towards building a better knowledge base surrounding medical marijuana in Canada. The first experiments on how environment can affect the health and productivity of cannabis plants are already underway. The research work will be ongoing for the foreseeable future and will be an important aspect of Tweed's strategic plans.
