Missouri Hospital Association Announces Agreement with Vizient’s Patient Safety Organization to Improve Quality, Protect Patients

The Missouri Hospital Association (MHA) announced an agreement with the Vizient, Inc. Patient Safety Organization (PSO) that offers Missouri hospitals new tools in the effort to improve hospital quality and protect patients. This agreement, along with MHA’s agreement with Healthcare Services Group (HSG), combines the clinical quality, risk mitigation and patient safety resources of the three organizations into a robust quality and value improvement toolset. Most Missouri hospitals are partnered with a PSO. However the rapidly expanding demand for care-improvement resources, coupled with the need for strong, integrated partners has caused hospital clinical quality improvement leaders to rethink their PSO partnerships. An additional driver of the partnership is a soon-to-be-implemented component of the Affordable Care Act. Beginning Jan. 1, 2017, most hospitals must participate in a patient safety evaluation program in order to contract with health plans available in the state’s health insurance exchange.
