GKN Aerospace Signs LTA with Rolls-Royce plc to Supply Components for Trent 1000 Engine

GKN Aerospace announced that it has signed a long term agreement, or LTA, with Rolls-Royce plc to supply components for the new version of the Trent 1000 engine, a capability enhancement of the existing Trent 1000 engine for the Boeing 787. This LTA is estimated to be worth more than USD 200 million over the life of the agreement. The agreement gives GKN Aerospace responsibility for the supply of the outer guide vane (OGV) mount ring and the rear fan case for the engine. When in full production GKN Aerospace expects to supply up to 150 engine sets annually.

GKN Aerospace announced unaudited earnings results for the six months ended June 30, 2014. For the six months, the company announced sales of GBP 1,100 million compared to GBP 1,123 million for the same period a year ago. Trading profit was GBP 121 million compared to GBP 118 million for the same period a year ago. Other factors included improved commercial spares sales and higher volumes on new programmes offset by lower military sales on mature programmes. The impact from currency on translation of results was GBP 6 million adverse and there was a GBP 2 million benefit from the absence of costs following the disposal of GKN Aerospace's stake in the CTAL joint venture. Return on average invested capital was 16.8% against 20.1% a year ago.
The company's 2014 organic sales are expected to show modest growth, reflecting these conflicting trends.
