BHP Billiton and SaskPower Establish Carbon Capture and Storage Knowledge Centre

BHP Billiton and SaskPower have signed an agreement to establish the BHP Billiton SaskPower Carbon Capture Knowledge Centre to help advance Carbon Capture and Storage as a means of managing greenhouse gas emissions. BHP Billiton will contribute CAD 4 million per year for five years to fund the Knowledge Centre, which will operate as a Not-For-Profit Canadian Corporation in Regina, Saskatchewan. Under the agreement, BHP Billiton and SaskPower will each appoint two directors to the Board of the Knowledge Centre and another three independent directors will be appointed collectively. It is intended that the Knowledge Centre will help inform a range of interested parties, including governments, universities, industry and research organizations, on practical considerations in the development and use of CCS. It will be staffed by people with appropriate knowledge of CCS and Boundary Dam, either seconded from SaskPower or employed directly by the Knowledge Centre.
SaskPower Opens Carbon Capture Test Facility in Estevan, Saskatchewan

SaskPower announced the opening of its Carbon Capture Test Facility in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Situated near the Boundary Dam Carbon Capture Project. The Government of Canada contributed $1.3 million toward the design of the facility through Natural Resources Canada's ecoENERGY Technology Initiative. This facility will offer international clients a unique platform for the testing of new and emerging technologies to capture carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired thermal facilities.
Saskpower Appoints M.J. Mike Marsh as President on Permanent Basis

M.J. Mike Marsh, who has been acting president and CEO of SaskPower since last fall, has been named president on a permanent basis. The appointment took effect immediately. Marsh was named in the acting role following the resignation of Robert Watson in October 2014 after the unsuccessful rollout of smart meters. Marsh has been with SaskPower since 1991.
