University of Maine Names Joyce Hedlund as Interim President at Machias

The former president of Washington County Community College will take the reins as president of the University of Maine at Machias on an interim basis. Joyce Hedlund, a Fort Kent native, will step out of her year-and-a-half-old retirement on Jan. 5, 2014 to rejoin the University of Maine System.

University of Maine Appoints Joseph P. Mcginn as New Provost, Vice President of Academic Affairs

Joseph P. McGinn was appointed provost and vice president of academic affairs at the University of Maine at Farmington, effective July 1. As chief academic officer, McGinn will provide leadership for all aspects of academic life, continue to strengthen UMF's academic and research programs and maintain UMF's dedication to excellence. McGinn comes to UMF from Towson University near Baltimore, Maryland, where he had served as dean of the Honors College and professor of philosophy since 2011. Prior to his time at Towson, he served as director of the Global Honors program and professor of philosophy at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania and assistant professor of philosophy and humanities at Penn State Harrisburg in Pennsylvania.

University of Maine Appoints Karen Cole as Associate Director of Collins Center for the Arts

Karen Cole will take over as the associate director of the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine. Cole will be leaving her position as Executive Vice President of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, where she began working in 2009 as the marketing and communications director. Cole will take the place of Adele Adkins, who left the position earlier 2014.
