Via Christi Health Announces Workforce Reductions

Via Christi Health announced workforce reductions will include about 360 positions, which will affect about 230 full- and part-time staff statewide. About half of the positions are in management, administrative and non-clinical support roles and 80% are positions other than bedside nursing in acute care hospitals. The reductions are heaviest in Wichita, with 78% of the cuts to be made in Wichita, 16% in Pittsburg and 6% in Manhattan.

Via Christi Health to Lay Off 28 from Pittsburg Hospital

Via Christi Health is laying off 28 people from its hospital in Pittsburg as part of its statewide cost-cutting measures. Last month, Via Christi announced that it needed to trim its operating budget by $18 million and was planning to shed about 400 jobs, 4% of its work force. The Joplin Globe reports that Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg was asked to reduce its budget by $3.5 million and made across-the-board cuts. In some cases, the hospital chose to leave some positions open. Via Christi has estimated that as many as 80 open positions won't be filled across the system. Meanwhile, it appears that the system's McPherson Hospital will be spared, according to a report last week in The McPherson Sentinel.
