Birmingham-Southern College Hires Bradley Cakey as New Provost and Vice President

Bradley Caskey has been named the new provost and vice president for academic affairs at Birmingham-Southern, effective July 1, 2017. Caskey’s career in academia spans more than 30 years. In his current position, which he has held since 2009, he oversees 16 academic departments and interdisciplinary programs that include 2,200 students and more than 200 faculty and staff. The provost and vice president for academic affairs at Birmingham-Southern reports directly to the school president and is the chief academic officer with broad responsibilities for the full range of the school academic programs and support services. Caskey is replacing interim provost and English professor Susan K.Hagen, who is retiring after more than 40 years of service at Birmingham-Southern.

Birmingham-Southern College's alumni board has been restructured in an effort to reach more graduates across the country. Chapters have been added throughout the Southeast and alumni events are planned in places as far as New York and Houston this year. Trey Echols, president and CEO of Highland Associates, has been named president of the new board. Echols, a 1996 graduate of BSC who majored in finance, also has served on the college's Norton Board, which for more than 40 years has connected students with experts and professionals for experiential learning opportunities. BSC alumna Jennifer Howard Waters, the college's previous director of admission, is acting as coordinator for the board.
Birmingham-Southern College Announces Executive Changes

Birmingham-Southern College named Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith as new president after Ed Leonard vacated the role. She previously served as the school's chief of staff and also as a consultant to the BSC board. Leonard was named president in May 2015, coming to BSC from Bethany College in Kansas. Bethany was put on probation by the Higher Learning Commission in June 2015. After serving as chief of staff at BSC until May 2013, Flaherty-Goldsmith worked as a pro bono consultant with Human Rights First. Prior to her first tenure at BSC, she had several years of experience in higher education, including roles at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama System. She also served as vice president and chief operating officer of the University of Connecticut.
