Mississippi State University and Tougaloo Sign Agreement to Enhance STEM Opportunities

Mississippi State University and Tougaloo College signed a memorandum of understanding on Oct. 20, 2014 to enhance educational and research opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, collectively known as STEM. The agreement is an initial commitment of the two institutions to enter a relationship which will develop over time, with individual academic disciplines expected to develop more specific details by mutual consent. The MOU outlines several joint objectives of the institutions, both accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, including: Early identification of qualified Tougaloo students who can benefit from joint academic and research activities with MSU. Opportunities for qualified students to earn credit at Tougaloo College and transfer credit to selected MSU degree programs to earn a master's degree. Mutual bachelor's and master's degree programs in which Tougaloo College students can earn a master's degree at MSU in selected STEM disciplines after completing a bachelor's degree at Tougaloo College. Special doctoral degree program opportunities in selected STEM disciplines at MSU in which Tougaloo students will be selected jointly by the institutions to continue graduate work after completion of a degree at Tougaloo College. Collaborative research opportunities between the two institutions in selected STEM disciplines. Opportunities for the exchange of faculty members and/or students. Joint submission of grant proposals to fund cooperative educational and research endeavors.
Mississippi State University Announces Partnership with Prestage Farms Inc. to Resume Swine-Related Studies

Mississippi State University is partnering with Prestage Farms Inc. as its researchers prepare to resume swine-related studies. The result has been the installation of feeders, a new watering system, a feed auger system to move feed to the pigs as needed and ventilation curtains that open and close automatically to control the temperature in the facility. The facility is located in the H.H. Leveck Animal Research Center. It has housed pigs before; the building has been used as a multipurpose facility in recent years. The facilities will not only house swine research but also provide students firsthand experience to prepare them for working in the swine industry.
Mississippi State University Announces Executive Changes

Mississippi State University announced that Jeff Davis being named executive director of the alumni association. Davis succeeds Jimmy Abraham, who retired earlier this year after a 38-year career in alumni affairs and student affairs. He is set to begin his duties on November 18, 2013. Davis will serve as the key liaison between the university and its more than 127,000 living alumni around the state and across the nation. The 135-year-old land-grant institution has more than 95 alumni chapters in locations across the U.S. and overseas. In his new role, Davis will develop and implement programs to maintain lifelong interactions between Mississippi State graduates and the institution and provide feedback from alumni about their concerns, said John P. Rush, MSU vice president for development and alumni.
