Company Overview

Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) provides insurance for injuries and illnesses incurred by workplaces covered under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA). The board promotes prevention of injuries and diseases in the workplace. It also administers the workplace safety and insurance system in Ontario and enforces provisions under the WSIA. Claims for compensation are made to the WSIB and if approved, are paid directly to the injured worker by the WSIB through insurance premiums collected from employers. The WSIB is entirely funded by employers. The Board is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario.

Toronto lawyer Richard A. Fink has launched a multi-million dollar lawsuit on behalf of injured workers against the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board alleging misfeasance in public office. The lawsuit seeks a declaration from the Superior Court of Justice that the Board acted in bad faith when it reduced Non-Economic Loss awards for thousands of injured workers in Ontario without legal authority. The lawsuit seeks damages from the Board for its behavior, including expenses incurred by workers challenging decisions on their claims.
