Sutter Health Network announced that president and chief executive officer Pat Fry, he will retire on Jan. 4, 2016. The Sutter Health board of directors named Chief Operating Officer Sarah Krevans to succeed Fry. Sarah Krevans Assumes President and CEO Role in January 2016. Sutter Health's chief operating officer since 2012 and a Sutter Health executive for 16 years, Krevans, has provided strong leadership and clear vision borne of nearly 30 years of executive experience in the healthcare field.
Boehringer Ingelheim and Sutter Health Establish Research Collaboration to Improve Patient Care

Boehringer Ingelheim and Sutter Health announced the start of a five-year research and health care innovation collaboration, which will explore and test the value of digital health solutions, mobile technologies, and insights from advanced data analytics in the delivery of health care. The organizations will work on initiatives that bring together Boehringer Ingelheim's research and development expertise in novel medications to address unmet therapeutic needs with Sutter Health's research and clinical experience from caring for a diverse population of more than 3 million patients in its network of hospitals and healthcare providers. The first collaborative initiative will focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Chronic lower respiratory diseases, which include COPD, rank third in leading causes of death in the United States. Healthcare providers have told approximately 15 million Americans that they have COPD. Through this initial project, the team hopes to make it easier for doctors and patients to work together to personalize medical care to the patient's unique needs and preferences.
Sutter Health Network Reaches Contract Agreement with Blue Shield of California

Sutter Health Network announced that it reached agreement on a new two-year contract with Blue Shield of California, preserving patient access to the doctors and care centers that Blue Shield sold to patients during fall open enrollment. The contract applies to all Blue Shield products in which Sutter Health providers historically participated, including HMO, PPO and those offered through Covered California. There will be no lapse in coverage for Sutter Health patients. The contract agreement continues to call for arbitration of all disputes, leaving language unchanged that has been in place between Sutter Health and Blue Shield for many years.
