Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced that Marquita Davis accepted the deputy director for early childhood position. Davis, whose last day is March 24, has been executive director of the Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity for the past four years. During that time she has led one of the large community action agencies in the state with a $30 million budget and more than 450 employees.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation plans to sell 60 million Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. donated by Warren Buffett, reflecting the fellow billionaire's desire that proceeds be spent on charitable works. In a regulatory filing on January 17, 2017, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said the sales would occur from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2020, under a plan similar to one expiring on June 30, 2017.
