Temple University Key Developments

Temple University Announces Executives Changes

Temple University's president announced a new athletic director to replace Kevin Clark, the man who headed up the department when the North Philly school axed seven of its 24 varsity sports teams. Patrick Kraft, the current deputy director of athletics, is taking over for Clark, who is moving to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief operating officer after leading the athletics department for two years. In his new role as executive vice president and COO, Clark will be responsible for the university's daily operations, which means four divisions intercollegiate athletics; construction, facilities and operations; a campus recreation; and business services would report to him. Temple trustees must approve Clark's appointment.

Temple University Appoints Ellen Weber as Executive Director at Temple University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute

Ellen Weber, a longtime angel investor, entrepreneur and Philadelphia startup advocate, has announced her new executive director position at Temple University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute. She'll also serve as an assistant professor in the Fox School of Business strategic management department. Weber will continue her role as executive director of Robin Hood Ventures, a group of angel investors focused on early-stage, high-growth companies in the region. Weber helped found Robin Hood Ventures 15 years ago. Weber replaces Jaine Lucas, who left this summer after seven years with the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute.

Temple Enters into Research Alliance with Penn Medicine, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and Israel Brain Technologies-To Develop Important Neuroscientific Discoveries

Temple has entered into a new international research alliance with strategic partners-including Penn Medicine, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and Israel Brain Technologies-to develop important neuroscientific discoveries for the treatment of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. The new alliance also will play a key role in moving those discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace. The alliance was formed by Reps. Chaka Fattah of Pennsylvania and Steve Israel of New York, leaders in Congress in the area of neuroscience and Alzheimer's research. The alliance's members signed an historic Memorandum of Understanding at a ceremony in Manhasset, N.Y., last month. The new alliance would provide collaborative opportunities, information and resources to neuroscience researchers at Temple, enhancing their ability to advance their work beyond the laboratory to have a beneficial impact on society.
