University of St. Thomas announced that Rev. Larry Snyder will replace the Rev. John Malone, who retired from the vice presidency in May. At the helm of Catholic Charities, Snyder oversaw the agency's response to Hurricane Katrina and the Great Recession. In his new role, he will be in charge of initiatives that further the Catholic university's mission as a faith-based institution.

University of St. Thomas will be led by a woman -- not a priest. The Roman Catholic university's Board of Trustees on Feb. 14, 2013 named Julie Sullivan as the new president of the St. Paul school. University said that Sullivan would officially start as president July 1.
