The University of South Florida appointed Calvin Williams as new vice president of administrative services as of Aug. 3. Williams will oversee the environmental health and safety, facilities management, human resources and parking and transportation services departments. He spent 30 years in the Air Force serving in engineering and leadership roles domestically and internationally, most recently serving as director of logistics, installations and mission support at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

Agilis Biotherapeutics, LLC announced that the Company has entered into an exclusive worldwide license agreement with the University of South Florida for the treatment of Angelman Syndrome using gene therapy technology developed by Edwin Weeber, PhD, Director of the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory and Chief Scientific Officer at the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer's Research Institute at the University of South Florida, and one of the world’s foremost AS investigators. Dr. Weeber and colleagues have developed an innovative gene therapy approach for the treatment of AS and recently published evidence of therapeutic efficacy in the gold standard mouse model. Agilis’ collaboration with Dr. Weeber and USF will target the genetic malfunctions of AS using gene therapy to deliver a corrective UBE3a gene to rescue neurological deficits in patients suffering from this rare disease. Under the terms of the agreement, Agilis will be granted worldwide, exclusive rights to AS gene therapy candidates and related intellectual property.

University of South Florida named an interim chancellor to replace Arthur M. Guilford at USF Sarasota-Manatee after he steps down July 31, 2014. Terry A. Osborn, USF Sarasota-Manatee regional vice chancellor for academic and student affairs, will serve as interim regional chancellor effective August 1, 2014. Arthur M. Guilford will be stepping down from his position as regional chancellor effective July 31, 2014 and retiring as of January, 2015.
