Eircom Reportedly Eyeing Setanta Sports

eircom Group plc (Eir) may acquire stake in Setanta Sports International Limited. Eir is in talks to acquire Setanta Sports. The Irish Times has learned that talks are at an advanced stage with a potential deal likely to be completed in 2016, subject to regulatory approval and competition clearance. The news report added that Mickey O’Rourke, Setanta’s majority shareholder and Co-founder, would remain with the business for a period after a deal is completed. It further mentioned that it is not clear how much Eir would pay to acquire Setanta but industry sources said the company could be worth up to €20 million, and the potential sale will yield a windfall for staff, who own 5% to 10% between them.
