Troon and Florida State University Announce Partnership Aimed at Developing Future Leaders in Club Management & Hospitality Industries

Troon and Florida State University's Dedman School of Hospitality announced a unique partnership aimed at growing and developing future leaders in the global club management and hospitality industries. The partnership, which will begin this fall semester, will focus on four key components, including: Student Leadership and Management Training Program: A number of students from FSU's Dedman School of Hospitality majoring in Global Club Management will be selected to attend and participate in Troon's annual leadership conference. In addition, select students will be placed into management internship training at Troon-managed properties and at Troon's corporate offices in Scottsdale, Ariz. and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. International Internship Program: Troon and FSU will annually place a select number of interns from the Global Club Management major at Troon-managed private clubs and golf resorts abroad. Recruiting Program: Troon's Human Resources team will attend the Dedman School of Hospitality's annual Internship Expo and will promote seasonal job opportunities at Troon facilities to all Global Club Management and Hospitality majors. Information Sharing: Troon will share current trends and information with the Dedman School of Hospitality's faculty to help in the real-world education process of students. Conversely, students and faculty will provide Troon with fresh perspectives and ideas and will also share the latest academic studies that impact the club and hospitality industries.

Gov. Rick Scott Appoints Maximo "Max" Alvarez to the Florida State University Board of Trustees

Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Maximo "Max" Alvarez, founder and president of Sunshine Gasoline Distributors Inc., to the Florida State University Board of Trustees. Alvarez, of Doral, has been appointed through Jan. 6, 2021. Alvarez serves as a member of the First Tee Board of Trustees, Miami Children's Hospital, Centro Hispanico Catholic and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Alvarez succeeds Trustee Allan G. Bense of Panama City, who was appointed in 2011 and served as board chairman from June 2012 to June 2015.

Florida State University Names Brent Edington as New Director of the Office of Commercialization

Brent Edington has been appointed as Florida State University's new director of the Office of Commercialization, a critical role that is responsible for turning university research into marketable products and services. As director, Edington will oversee the efforts of an office responsible for creating partnerships between university researchers and outside organizations to develop products and knowledge that directly benefit society. In addition to its work with individual researchers, the office administers several internal grant programs, facilitates patent and licensing activity for FSU research and aids in the creation of startup companies based on FSU-developed technology. Edington brings diverse experience to the position from both his involvement in the private biotech sector and previous commercialization positions at other higher education institutions. Prior to his role as interim director of the FSU Office of Commercialization, Edington served as licensing manager at the University of Utah and director of the Technology Licensing Office at Old Dominion University.
