James Lee Sorenson Joins Board of Trustees of The University of Utah

The University of Utah Board of Trustees now includes businessman and U. alumnus James Lee Sorenson. Sorenson, whose $13 million donation to the university in 2013 helped create the James Lee Sorenson Global Impact Investing Center, is the co-founder of Sorenson Capitol and a leader in the field of digital video compression. His appointment to the board of trustees follows a nomination by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and confirmation by the Utah Senate.

NantHealth and University of Utah Establish Heritage 1,000 Project to Discover Genetic Causes of 25 Rare and Common Diseases

NantHealth, Inc. announced that it has partnered with the University of Utah in analyzing the entire genomic profiles of at least 1,000 individuals who have a history of rare and life-threatening diseases and conditions in their respective families. The landmark project will focus on researching the genetic causes of 25 conditions, including, breast, colon, ovarian, and prostate cancers, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), chronic lymphocytic leukemia, autism, preterm birth, epilepsy, and other hereditary conditions. Genomic sequencing will be conducted with unique, comprehensive molecular tests offered by NantHealth. NantHealth’s genomic sequencing platform integrates whole genome (DNA) sequencing, and RNA sequencing. By carrying out this extensive testing, including analysis of germline and somatic samples, University of Utah and NantOmics researchers will be able to explore the underlying genetic causes of certain conditions and diseases at the cellular level.

The University of Utah Wins $3.04 Million Federal Contract

The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, won a $3,038,921 sole source federal contract from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services's National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, for a study on the impact of diet, exercise and lifestyle on fertility.
