Google Inc., Intel Corp. and TAG Heuer announced that they will collaborate to develop a Swiss smartwatch, powered by Intel technology and Android Wear, which will compete directly against Apple's (AAPL) new smartwatch.

TAG Heuer Seeks Acquisitions

TAG Heuer International SA is pushing ahead with plans for a smartwatch to more directly compete with the likes of the Apple Watch and may make acquisitions to help drive the strategy, its head said on December 16, 2014. Chief Jean-Claude Biver said he had struck several partnerships and was mulling purchases to help come up with an original upmarket offering. "We started on the project about four months ago. We have done several partnerships and might also do acquisitions," Biver said.

TAG Heuer Announces Executive Changes

Stephane Linder, chairman and chief executive of TAG Heuer, part of LVMH, stepped down on December 10, 2014 and Jean-Claude Biver, head of LVMH's watch business, took over as interim CEO. The watchmaker announced Linder's sudden resignation in a short notice late on December 10, 2014, saying he was set to pursue other professional challenges.
