J. Scot Ransbottom has been named chief of staff and deputy chief information officer for Virginia Tech's Information Technology division. Ransbottom will serve as a key adviser to Scott Midkiff, vice president of information technology and chief information officer, and play an important role in facilitating the evolution of the division's collaborative culture and service mentality. Since June 2014, Ransbottom has served as deputy director of the Information Technology Security Lab, part of the IT Security Office. Ransbottom came to Virginia Tech's Information Technology division from the United States Military Academy, where he served in multiple roles in leadership, administration, and academics. He also has experience in communications and networking operations, engineering, and policy across every organizational level
throughout the U.S. Army. In his new position, Ransbottom will manage the business and administrative operations of Virginia Tech's Information Technology division, including budgeting and financial management, reporting, personnel administration, customer experience management, and communications. Ransbottom will assume a key role in the senior leadership team, helping to oversee operations, and improving processes, communication, and performance across the organization.
Virginia Tech Appoints Mary Helmick, as Director of Procurement

Virginia Tech announced that Mary Helmick, former director of procurement at James Madison University, has been appointed as director of procurement. Helmick succeeds Tom Kaloupek who recently retired after 20 years of service to the university. Reporting directly to the vice president for finance and chief financial officer, Helmick will provide leadership and direction to the procurement and surplus property functions at the university. This includes providing oversight to the university procurement processes for the effective and efficient acquisition of goods, services, insurance, and minor construction contracts, the surplus property disposal functions, and the supplier diversity program. Helmick also will be responsible for the effective management of the electronic business system (HokieMart) that processes transactions destined to commercial and internal university suppliers and to ensure a positive customer-service environment with the Procurement Department and Surplus Property operations in order to serve faculty, staff, and students. She is a member of the Virginia Association of State College and University Procurement Professionals, Virginia Association of Government Procurement, National Institute of Government Procurement, and the National Association of Education Procurement.
