University of Oklahoma Appoints Jonathan Nichols as Vice President for Governmental Relations

Jonathan Nichols has been named vice president for governmental relations at the University of Oklahoma. After earning his juris doctor from the OU College of Law, Nichols went into private practice, later becoming an assistant district attorney before being elected to the Oklahoma Senate, where he served from 2000 to 2012. Since 2012, he has served as the chief of staff and legal counsel for the Office of the President Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma Senate. As vice president for governmental relations, Nichols will promote relationships with state and local policymakers to ensure legislative funding and policy initiatives reflect the needs of OU. Nichols will also work with state officials and government agencies in providing information and research findings that may assist their policy work.
SSM Health Teams Up with University of Oklahoma and University Hospitals Authority and Trust to Create a New Health Care Company

SSM Health is teaming up with University of Oklahoma and University Hospitals Authority and Trust to create a new health care company that will operate a network of more than 23 Oklahoma hospitals and affiliates, including the OU Medical Center, The Children's Hospital and SSM's St. Anthony Hospitals. SSM and UHAT will share governance and financial responsibility for the new network, with SSM managing the day-to-day operations. The OU hospitals have annual net patient revenue of about $965 million, which will be consolidated into SSM's books as part of the deal. SSM posted operating revenue of $5.45 billion for 2015. The new joint entity being formed by UHAT and SSM, which has not yet been named, is buying HCA's interest in OU Medical Center and OUMC Edmond for $750 million. The transaction to create the new company is expected to close in the first half of 2017.

University of Oklahoma Vice President for University Outreach, James Pappas, announced his intent to retire from the University, effective in December, after almost 30 years of service to University. The university also announced that Belinda Biscoe, Associate Vice President for University Outreach, Public and Community Services, will be appointed as Interim Vice President for University Outreach; Martha Banz, currently Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Studies, will be promoted to Interim Dean of Liberal Studies and appointed Associate Provost for Continuing Education and Shad Satterthwaite, Assistant Vice President for Continuing Education Academic Programs, will be appointed as Associate Dean of Liberal Studies.
