University at Buffalo Announces Management Changes

University at Buffalo officials announced that Dennis Black, the Vice President for University Life and Services (ULS) at the university, has resigned, effective immediately. A graduate of the university, Black has worked at the State University of New York’s institution since 1978. He has been the Dean of Students, the Associate Vice Provost for Student Services, and the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. He started his current position in 2010. Laura Hubbard, the Vice President for Finance and Administration, was appointed to manage ULS operations, effective immediately and on an acting basis.
The University at Buffalo Establishes Center for Microbiome Research

The University at Buffalo is establishing a new center to conduct research on the human microbiome, the collective microorganisms that live on and in the human body. The goal of research conducted at the center is to develop a base of knowledge about the human microbiome and its role in health and disease. The new center will focus, in part, on the oral microbiome, which has been a key interest of UB researchers, and its relationship to the microbiome in other sites in the body.

Marc S. Ernstoff, MD, has been appointed professor and chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo (UB), and chair of the Department of Medicine and senior vice president of clinical investigation at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI). Ernstoff also will serve as chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at UBMD Internal Medicine, the clinical practice plan of the UB Department of Medicine. The appointments take effect on April 1. In 2014, Ernstoff became the director of the Melanoma Program at Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute. From 1991 to 2014, he served as associate professor of medicine and professor of medicine at Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. During much of his tenure, Ernstoff was the director of the Melanoma Program at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and the section chief of Hematology/Oncology.
