University of Nebraska - Lincoln to Launch Student Veterans Resource Center

University of Nebraska - Lincoln's new Student Veterans Resource Center will be located in the Nebraska Union and will be aimed at supporting student veterans' transition to academic life and provide services related to them. Viewed as an extension of the university's First-Year Experience and Transition Programs, the center will provide academic and transition coaching, peer mentors and empower and support all students in and out of the classroom. The center will promote community recognition, greater integration and success on campus, and increased graduation and retention rates. The center will assistmilitary, veterans and their dependents with a number of services including academic support; recruiting and admissions counseling; mentoring and orientation; career placement; and providing a location for student veterans and military service members to communicate and network with one another. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's student veteran population will have a home base to support them with all aspects of university life.

University of Nebraska Medical Center, Iowa State University, the University of Iowa and the University of South Dakota Partner with University of Nebraska-Lincoln to Establish the Center

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will soon be home to a regional Research Data Center. These highly secure centers provide researchers access to restricted federal data, allowing them to investigate issues in greater detail. The Central Plains Research Data Center, a partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau's Center for Economic Studies, will join a network of 18 such centers in the United States that are jointly funded by the Census Bureau and the National Science Foundation. UNL won a $300,000 NSF grant to launch the center. The University of Nebraska Medical Center, Iowa State University, the University of Iowa and the University of South Dakota are partnering with UNL to establish the center. Slated to open in fall 2015, the facility will be housed in UNL's Whittier Research Center. A U.S. Census Bureau employee will manage the center. Only researchers who receive government clearance and who agree to protect the sensitive data will have access. This Federal Statistical Research Data Center provides researchers in the social, behavioral, health and life sciences across the region a secure environment that allows access to restricted-use data from the Census Bureau, National Center for Health Statistics, Bureau of Labor Statistics, National Center for Education Statistics, Department of Transportation, Department of Housing and Urban Development and other federal sources.

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents Approves Agreement Between Union Bank & Trust Co. and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents has unanimously approved an agreement between Union Bank & Trust Co. and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The new agreement provides UNL $9.53 million over 11 years. It also provides Union Bank branch bank space in the Nebraska Union, eight ATMs across campus, license to use the UNL logo, the opportunity to support UNL student organizations and programming, and special account offerings for students, faculty and staff. The agreement begins in March. Union Bank was chosen through a competitive bid process. Earlier 2014, the university issued a request for proposals to all financial institutions with a presence in Lincoln and Lancaster County. Union Bank was selected after an evaluation committee examined the breadth and creativity of various proposals, plus vendor qualifications, marketing initiatives, account pricing and financial support.
