Baylor University Names Allison Chew Syltie as Director

Allison Chew Syltie has been named the new director of Baylor University's Martin Museum of Art, effective August 3. Syltie will succeed Karin Gilliam, who has served as the director of the Martin Museum of Art for the past 10 years. Gilliam will serve as the museums Director Emeritus and will work on special outreach projects in a part-time capacity. Since 2008, she has worked at the Pearce Museum at Navarro College as the curator for the museums art collection and later as the director of the museum, where she oversaw day-to-day operations, and contributed to the success of the museum.

Baylor University Announces Executive Appointments

Baylor University President and Chancellor Ken Starr announced two appointments to the executive staff of the University. Tommye Lou Davis has been appointed Chief of Staff to the President. Ms. Davis also will retain her responsibilities as Vice President for Constituent Engagement. Juan Alejandro Jr., Ed.D., has been appointed Interim Vice President of Governance and Risk and Chief Compliance Officer. Both currently serve on the President's Executive Council. The appointments are effective immediately. Davis will manage the day to day operations of the Office of the President and oversee other areas that report to the office, such as governmental relations and Baylor Event Services. In his role, Dr. Alejandro will manage and coordinate Board and university policies and procedures, ensure processes are in place to evaluate business and regularity risks, and, as compliance officer, ensure that Baylor has the necessary policies and processes in place to comply with the many policies, procedures, laws and regulations to which the University is subject as an institution, including Title IX. Dr. Alejandro has served as an adjunct professor at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business, where he taught auditing and assurance services and business and professional ethics for accountants. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Internal Auditors, Association of College and University Auditors and the Big 12 Conference Internal Auditor Organization.

Baylor University Announces Executive Changes

Baylor University announced the appointment of David E. Garland as interim provost. The board also expressed its sincere appreciation for the faithful service and academic leadership of Provost and Executive Vice President Elizabeth Davis, Ph.D., who, after 22 years at Baylor, will resign her position to become president of Furman University on July 1. As Davis begins her transition this spring, President Starr notified the board that he has appointed Dr. Garland as interim provost. Garland currently is The Charles J. and Eleanor McLerran Delancey Chair of the Dean of George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
