Lehigh University Names John D. Simon as President

University of Virginia executive vice president and Provost John D. Simon has been named the next president of Lehigh University. Simon, who has served as the chief academic officer at U.Va. since 2011, will assume the new post on July 1. Prior to joining U.Va., Simon was the vice provost for academic affairs at Duke University, where he was responsible for overseeing Duke's strategic planning and for nurturing campus-wide academic initiatives to connect the humanities, social sciences and sciences. Prior to serving as vice provost, he chaired Duke's chemistry department for five years. He joined the Duke faculty in 1998 and a year later was named chair of the chemistry department. Previously, Simon spent 12 years working his way through the academic ranks at the University of California, San Diego.
Lehigh University Names Kevin Clayton as Interim President

Lehigh University has named Kevin Clayton as its interim president. Clayton is retiring as a principal and director of the global investment management firm Oaktree Capital
Management to take the position in August. Clayton, co-chairman of Lehigh's presidential search committee, will serve until a new president is selected, a process which is currently ongoing.

Following a comprehensive national search, Lehigh president Alice P. Gast appointed Patricia A. Johnson as Lehigh's new vice president for finance and administration. Patricia is currently associate vice president of finance and treasurer for Cornell University. She will join the Lehigh University leadership team on January 30, 2014. Johnson has broad financial and administrative experience, and has held senior positions in higher education and in the private sector. She was appointed to her current position at Cornell in 2007. She joined Cornell in 1995 as assistant treasurer and was named treasurer in 1999.
