Gulftainer Announces Expansion into the USA, as Part of Strategic Vision to Operate 35 Terminals

Gulftainer, marked its expansion into the USA, as part of its strategic vision to operate 35 terminals in five continents by 2020. Gulftainer secured a 35-year concession from Port Canaveral in Florida State to operate and further develop its container and multi-purpose cargo terminal. The deal was signed by and between John Walsh, CEO of Canaveral Port, and Badr Jafar, CEO of Crescent Enterprises and Chairman of Gulftainer’s Executive Board, at a ceremony held at Canaveral Port in the presence of 120 officials from the port and Florida State. Also in attendance was Michael Corbin, Ambassador of the USA to the UAE, and Saud Al Nowais, Commercial Counselor from the UAE Embassy in Washington. Under the terms of the agreement, Gulftainer will strengthen the terminal through a USD 100 million investment in infrastructure, equipment and locally-sourced human capital. The new container and cargo terminal is expected to contribute more than USD 630 million to Florida’s economy, USD 280 million in revenue to Port Canaveral, and generate more than USD 350 million in tax contributions.

Gulftainer announced the appointment of former DP World senior executive Flemming Dalgaard as its new CEO. Former CEO Peter Richards will now serve on Gulftainer's Executive Board and lead the expansion of the company's footprint in the United States as CEO of Gulftainer USA. Dalgaard joined Gulftainer in August 2015 to manage its international operations. In his new role as CEO, he is mandated to oversee the strategic growth of the company, which currently operates and manages ports and logistics businesses in the UAE and internationally across Iraq, Brazil, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and the US. With over 30 years in the international maritime industry, Dalgaard also served as senior vice president for Group Strategy at DP World and CEO for DP World Europe and Russia region.

Gulftainer, announced the appointment of a new head for its international operations. Flemming Dalgaard, a former DP World senior vice president, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of GT International, the international operations division. The new head will oversee operations in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, Brazil and the United States.
