Virgin Trains announced the naming of Peter Whittingham as its new managing director for the company’s West Coast mainline franchise that runs through Milton Keynes Central. Previously, at Virgin Trains, Phil has been lead executive, at the time he has led the company through negotiations for a new franchise which concluded successfully with the Department for Transport in June, in addition, also supervised the set of new services to Shrewsbury and Blackpool and been involved with the

Virgin Rail Group Announces New West Coast Rail Franchise with the Department for Transport

Stagecoach Group plc announced that Virgin Rail Group has agreed a new West Coast rail franchise with the Department for Transport. Passengers and taxpayers will benefit from a multi-million-pound package of significant improvements, including more seats, new services and free super fast wifi for all customers. The new franchise will commence on 22 June 2014 and run until 31 March 2017. The DfT has the option to extend the contract by an additional year to 31 March 2018. The new West Coast contract will provide: more seats; Better connectivity; Easier travel; New services; Customer reward programme; Financial value for taxpayers; Shareholder return; Employee, supply chain and community benefits; and a greener railway.
Chris Gibb to Step Down as Chief Operating Officer of Virgin Rail Group

Network Rail announced the appointment of Chris Gibb as a non-executive director. Mr. Gibb, 50, has worked in the rail industry for more than 30 years and is currently chief operating officer of Virgin Rail Group, responsible for all aspects of the delivery of Virgin's operations on the West Coast main line. Last year, he undertook a successful six-month secondment to Network Rail to lead a taskforce focused on improving the performance and reliability of the West Coast main line, resulting in the implementation of a targeted programme of investment to tackle the most common caused of delay. Mr. Gibb will step down from his current role at Virgin Rail Group before taking up his position on Network Rail's board.
