Trane Exhibits First Air-Cooled Chiller with Climate-Friendly Refrigerant DR-55
Aug 16 15
Trane presented the first-ever air-cooled demonstration chiller with next generation, low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant DR-55 at the IIR International Conference of Refrigeration. This demonstration chiller is a Trane AquaTrine using DR-55, which is designed for top-grade apartments, luxury villas, office buildings, small restaurants, retail stores and hotels. It uses a high-efficiency hermetic scroll compressor and evaporator technology to provide a stable, reliable and highly efficient operation. DR-55, marketed by The Chemours Company as Opteon XL55, is a next generation low-GWP refrigerant with strong safety, design and sustainability performance compared to other refrigerant choices. An olefin-based blend, DR-55 is currently being evaluated by the HVAC industry for use in unitary and residential equipment. DR-55 is a very promising, low GWP candidate to replace R-410A in commercial unitary systems. There is a relatively easy conversion rom R-410A to DR-55; therefore, it should be considered as a viable design-compatible replacement for R-410A with increased performance and environmental benefits. DR-55 benefits compared to R-410A include 70% reduction in direct global warming potential, 10% lower refrigerant charge requirement, and significantly better performance in both efficiency and capacity, even at high ambient temperatures.
Trane Introduces Trane® Sintesis Family of Air-Cooled Chillers
Jun 15 15
Trane introduced the Trane® Sintesis family of air-cooled chillers. These chillers are now available for order in Europe, the Middle East, North and Latin America. Sintesis chillers are part of the Ingersoll Rand® EcoWise™ portfolio of products designed to lower their environmental impact with next-generation, low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants and high-efficiency operation. Sintesis chillers offer customers a choice to use either R-134a or DuPont Opteon® XP10 (R-513A), a next-generation, low-GWP refrigerant to address sustainability objectives. The portfolio provides more than options for refrigerants. The portfolio also: Achieves Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (ESEER). Uses up to 40% less refrigerant than traditional tube/fin and flooded heat exchanger technology due to the micro-channel condenser coil and the compact, high-performance, integrated, low charge (CHIL) evaporator design. Reduces noise and improves acoustics through its factory-installed acoustic treatments for consistent, quiet operation to meet specific application requirements. A user-selectable noise-reduction mode is also available to help comply with nighttime and weekend neighborhood noise restrictions. Acoustic packages deliver amongst the quietest operations in the market adhering to noise level regulations while improving further the efficiency. Next-generation integrated controls offer a simple user interface that is standard on every Sintesis chiller, delivering efficiency and performance advantages. The Tracer AdaptiView™ chiller controls feature a 7-inch color touch-screen display for at-a-glance status and intuitive navigation for simplified operation. Proven control strategies such as integrated temperature and flow logic respond to a wide variety of conditions and maintain reliable, efficient chiller operation. Adaptive Control™ keeps the chiller working efficiently in extreme conditions " even under a building automation system failure " for continued reliable operation when it is needed most. The control set up of Sintesis chillers offers a unique ice storage feature for cooling during peak demand. In Europe and the Middle East, the new Trane Sintesis chillers are available in sizes of 245 up to 450 (cooling capacities from 300 to 1600 kW). The chillers reach 1.6 MW of cooling capacity at Eurovent rated points and supplement the original 090 to 205 sizes introduced by Trane in 2014.
Central Piedmont Community College, Partners with Trane and National Coalition of Certification Centers to Develop HVAC Center of Excellence
Oct 21 13
Central Piedmont Community College working with Trane and the National Coalition of Certification Centers will establish an HVAC Center of Excellence at the Harper Campus, which will enhance CPCC's Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration (AHR) Technology program. CPCC's partnership with Trane and NC3 and the development of the HVAC Center of Excellence will provide a number of benefits to the college and its students. These include: Strengthening CPCC's ability to maintain facilities, incorporating the latest in technological advancements; providing access to standardized and continually updated certification curriculum and assessment tests; offering professional development and train-the-trainer activities to keep CPCC instructors current with rapidly changing technologies; allowing CPCC to participate in the development of national training curriculum and certification standards adding more certification training into for-credit academic programs; and receiving discounts on the HVAC equipment for student use.
