Kroll announced the appointment of Kenya Mann Faulkner as a Managing Director in Kroll’s Investigations and Disputes practice in the firm’s Philadelphia office. Faulkner has more than 25 years of significant experience as a defense attorney, federal prosecutor, state inspector general, and commercial litigator. She is a highly accomplished professional with a proven track record for working effectively in several complex areas of the law and applying those learnings to address critical enterprise risk management initiatives, including ethics, compliance, conflicts of interest, and institutional governance matters. Most recently, Faulkner served as Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel at the University of Cincinnati, and also served as the University’s Ethics Officer. In this role, she advised on diverse matters that included but were not limited to corporate transactions, labor and employment, intellectual property, and charitable giving. Faulkner was also responsible for the University’s Enterprise Risk Management program.
Kroll Appoints David Brown as Managing Director in Investigations and Disputes Practice, Dallas

Kroll announced the appointment of David Brown as a Managing Director in Kroll’s Investigations and Disputes practice. The former Chief of the Dallas Police Department (DPD), Brown rose through the ranks over the course of a distinguished 33-year career, and is a nationally recognized expert on promoting law and order and reducing violent crime, particularly through the use of highly effective community-based methods. Brown is also well known for his crisis management expertise. Last year, he demonstrated to all his steady hand and extraordinary leadership in his handling of the nation’s worst-ever police shooting incident that resulted in the death of five Dallas police officers and injury to nine others. Brown’s service with the DPD was marked by a genuine sense of duty and commitment to the residents and communities in his hometown, and to his fellow officers. A proponent of accountability and transparency, Brown focused on instituting improvements during his tenure as Deputy Chief (2003-2010) and Chief (2010-2016) that would result in the most significant reduction in crime in the city’s history as well as increased diversity and education levels throughout the department. Brown joined the DPD in 1983 and progressively advanced to the department’s SWAT team in 1996, which he directed and served on for seven years. He was appointed Deputy Chief in 2003, at a time when Dallas had led the country in violent crimes for six years.

Smolanoff, who brings more than 16 years of federal law enforcement and information security experience, has played a leading role in some of the most significant cyber security investigations in history. Over his career, he has specialized in supervising and investigating sophisticated computer and network intrusions conducted by state-sponsored organized crime, hacktivists, and insider threat actors, often developing and maintaining productive partnerships with international intelligence and law enforcement agencies as well as private industry. Most recently, Smolanoff was CEO of CISO Advisory & Investigations LLC to provide a wide range of outsourced information security services to publicly traded and private corporations, including their corporate boards and c-suite members. Concurrently, he has been serving as a Commissioner for the San Manuel Gaming Commission in Highland, California.
