EaglePicher Technologies, LLC announced that Gov. Jay Nixon joined local officials and company leaders of EaglePicher Technologies, LLC, to break ground on the company's new 100,000 square-foot facility at its headquarters in Joplin. The expansion is expected to create 171 new jobs for the region. EaglePicher also provides custom battery assemblies, battery management systems, pyrotechnic devices and custom power solutions for a variety of applications. The company's new facility will be an expansion of its existing facility at the Crossroads Industrial Park and will feature equipment and production areas to accommodate increased capacity. The company's new Lithium-Ion Center of Excellence facility will house work for new Lithium-Ion cell and battery product lines and is expected to be completed by December 2015. In addition to approximately 15 construction jobs that are expected to be created in the area, EaglePicher plans to recruit dozens of engineers, manufacturers, and quality control specialists to begin work on the new Lithium-Ion cell line sometime in the second or third quarter of 2016. To assist EaglePicher with its expansion in Joplin, DED has offered a strategic economic incentive package that the company can receive if it meets strict job creation and investment criteria.

EaglePicher Technologies, LLC has signed License Agreement and an Engineering Services Agreement with OneD Material. The contract has been signed to establish a new EaglePicher production facility in Joplin to produce SiNANOde, a silicon-nanowire-based anode material for building lithium ion cells and batteries, providing higher energy densities. The new technology will be used in part with EaglePicher's initiative to increase lithium ion cell production and expand the product range for defence and aerospace applications. According to the Engineering Services Agreement, OneD Material has started the transfer of its SiNANOde manufacturing process to allow EaglePicher to increase production and incorporate the novel anode into new cells and batteries. The licensed process is claimed to offer the production of silicon-nanowire material for electrochemical energy storage.
