Company Overview of Tellabs Inc.
Tellabs, Inc. designs, develops, and supports telecommunication networking products for communication service providers in the United States and internationally. The company operates through four segments: Optical, Data, Access, and Services. The Optical segment offers digital cross-connect systems, managed transport systems, optical transport systems, and Metro Ethernet Switching products that enable service providers to manage network bandwidth by adding capacity; and to support metro networks, mobile services, and business services for enterprises, as well as to provide triple-play voice, video, and data services for residential consumers. The Data segment provides next-generation packet-...

Tellabs Inc. Installs Optical LAN Solution in Park Place Condominium in Atlanta
Apr 2 15
Tellabs Inc. has installed its Optical LAN solution in Park Place, a 40-story, 242-unit condominium complex in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of a deployment with Atlanta-based next-generation engineering firm IP UtiliNET, Tellabs Optical LAN was selected to modernize and streamline the condominium's network to support multiple advanced services and meet the residents' evolving bandwidth needs. Tellabs' fiber based Optical LAN provided Park Place with a smart networking solution. It delivers the bandwidth that residents require for their current devices and voice, data and video applications. In addition, as a result of fiber's nearly unlimited bandwidth, Tellabs Optical LAN can support migration to next-generation technologies, such as voice-over-IP (VoIP), integrated music systems, exterior surveillance and access control, all without requiring infrastructure replacement. Compared to the traditional copper-based networking solution, Optical LAN's fiber endpoints within each condo offer four times more capacity. The superior bandwidth and density of optical fiber translates into maximum scalability for the Park Place Optical LAN. The Optical LAN design also enables IP UtiliNET to engineer the signal-distribution capacity for incremental delivery of 10-Gbps service. Tellabs Optical LAN is also simpler and easier to deploy throughout a building such as Park Place. It converges separate service-specific networks, such as voice, data, video and wireless, into a streamlined, single fiber architecture. This results in less equipment and cabling compared to copper, making it a more cost-effective solution. Tellabs Optical LAN also centralizes all management functions for the entire network, enabling technicians to configure and reconfigure connectivity and services for individual users much faster and more easily than they could with multiple traditional networks.
Elauwit Expands Deployment of Tellabs's Optical LAN
Oct 29 14
Tellabs announced that Elauwit has expanded the deployment of Tellabs's Optical LAN to five additional college campuses. Elauwit selected Tellabs' Optical LAN due its scalability to easily meet students' growing bandwidth needs now and for decades to come. Tellabs' fiber-based Optical LAN will provide the campuses with virtually unlimited bandwidth, capable of speeds of up to 101 Tbps, to support RF video and ultra-high-speed wired and wireless Internet services. Furthermore, the Optical LAN's compact architecture is a perfect fit for the cottage-style properties. It enables management of the bandwidth that has come to be expected in current construction and bulk telecom projects, yet takes up 90% less space than legacy copper-based architectures. This makes the architecture also much simpler to manage.
Aurora Public Library Selects Tellabs's Optical LAN Solution
Aug 21 14
Tellabs has announced that the Aurora Public Library has selected its Optical LAN solution for its new 92,000sqft main facility in Aurora, Illinois, scheduled to open in May 2015. The Richard and Gina Santori Library will leverage Tellabs' innovative fiber-optic technology to meet its patrons' growing bandwidth needs and build a scalable, simple, secure and sustainable local area network (LAN) infrastructure. The Santori Library will deploy the Tellabs 1134 Optical Line Terminal (OLT) that can serve a high density of users from a small four-rack unit chassis and the Tellabs 140 Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) with Power over Ethernet (PoE) and virtual LAN (VLAN) aware gigabit network. Optical LAN will interface to the library's existing core network, ensuring all native security filtering and firewalls remain in place. This will eliminate the need for some legacy access switches in the communications closet. The Optical LAN infrastructure will also be critical in enabling the Santori Library to achieve its sustainability goals, including the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Unlike the traditional copper-based LAN, Tellabs' Optical LAN was designed to meet the future network needs of high-performance buildings. Furthermore, Optical LAN will deliver gigabit speeds to support the library's voice, data, video and wireless services from a single, converged fiber-based network. As a result, the library will gain a future-proof and simpler infrastructure with efficient, centralized management. Additionally, Tellabs' Optical LAN could enable the Santori Library to serve additional libraries within an 18-mile radius.
