Point Park University Key Developments

Point Park University and Adjunct Faculty Members Ratify Contract

Adjunct faculty members at Point Park University have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a contract between the Adjunct Faculty Association of the United Steelworkers and the Downtown university. The agreement, which covers more than 300 part-time professors, was approved by a 93% margin. The three-and-a-half year agreement provides a 23% wage increase over the course of the contract, as well as job security and academic freedom protections and grievance and arbitration procedures. It also provides, for the first time, payments to instructors whose classes are unexpectedly cancelled on short notice. The university and part-time faculty reached a tentative agreement in September.

The United Steelworkers and Point Park University Announce Tentative Contract Agreement

The United Steelworkers and Point Park University announced on September 23, 2015 that they have reached a tentative agreement on a contract that will cover more than 300 adjunct instructors at the university. Negotiations began in December following a June 2014 vote by adjunct instructors to join the USW. If ratified, the contract will provide an undisclosed wage increase and improved job security. USW organizer Robin Sowards said the union is not releasing the details of the contract until it is ratified. The ratification process, which will take place via mail-in ballots, is expected to be completed in October. The contract expires Aug. 1, 2019.
