Skyfire Adds Streaming Audio Optimization to Rocket Optimizer
Aug 28 14
Skyfire has added streaming audio optimization as a new feature to Rocket Optimizer, its NFV-ready video and data optimization platform for mobile operators. A study by research firm Strategy Analytics into consumers mobile music habits in the United States, China, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom found that 77% of mobile users listen to music on their phones - with 70% claiming to do so at least once per week or more. 72% also that they use their mobile phones to listen to music at least once a week when the service is bundled into their operator data plan. The addition of optimized audio streaming to Rocket Optimizer also comes as increasing numbers of mobile operators partner with digital music streaming services as a way to differentiate themselves in the market, improve customer loyalty and reduce churn. It is for this reason that an increasing number of operators don't count music streaming against their customers data plans.
Procera Networks and Skyfire Announce Deployment-Ready Partnership
Oct 24 13
Procera Networks, Inc. and Skyfire announced a joint solution and partnership to tackle the rapid growth of video traffic on global mobile networks, based on an open, scalable ICAP architecture. The two companies have partnered to create a flexible, deployment-ready solution around PacketLogic(TM) Intelligent Policy Enforcement platforms that enables mobile operators to accelerate their move toward virtualized, software-defined network architectures, and to provide deeper functional integration for advanced traffic steering of video content. The interoperable solution is already being field-trialed by a major European operator. The joint solution is designed to bring Procera's leadership in intelligent policy enforcement together with Skyfire's cloud-based mobile video optimization solution, Rocket Optimizer(TM). Procera's Advanced Traffic Steering uses highly granular and accurate criteria to determine when and what video should be optimized. Together, the solution provides rapid scalability and quick time to market that is unprecedented in the industry, and provides over 2 times the boost in network capacity versus competing solutions by optimizing virtually all types of video traffic -- including network-clogging HD video. This results in superior service provider economics and broadband subscriber experience.
Skyfire Unveils New Version of Mobile Browser Extension Platform, Skyfire Horizon
Oct 22 13
Skyfire has unveiled a new version of its mobile browser extension platform, Skyfire Horizon, which can be deployed by operators and OEMs on Android smartphones. For operators, this provides tools to better interact with its customers, while offering even more attractive, browsing options to users. Skyfire Horizon can be preloaded by the operator or downloaded directly by the operator's customers, who can use it to personalize their mobile browser and gain access to a selection of utilities and HTML5 web apps to make their mobile browsing more social, more fun, and, with this release, access free or sponsored content through zero-rated browser extensions. Skyfire Horizon is currently live and shipping on new Android smartphones for two tier 1, US-based operators. The new version, Horizon 7.0, has been upgraded to allow a richer, more immersive HTML5 app experience within the browser, as well as being made international-ready for even faster deployment in markets around the world. In addition to in-browser extensions such as Amazon, eBay, Facebook, Twitter and many others, Horizon 7.0 adds multi-language support, the Opera Mobile Store for app recommendations, and Opera's Discover feature for instant local content discovery. Operators can leverage Horizon to offer shortcut buttons to their own services (such as customer care and subscription data) and content partners, all in a dynamic way through a cloud-based content management system. With this new international release, operators can now also offer zero-rating within a particular extension, which allows their customers to use that service - whether a social media, news or sports extension - at no additional cost against their prepaid or postpaid data bundle. This provides operators with the tools to create sponsored and ad-supported experiences easily with publishers and to engage reluctant data consumers with no-risk content. Just as with the Speed Dial functionality within Opera's browsers, Horizon also allows for value-added experience within the Horizon browser bar. Consumers who opt in are easily able to add new extensions from a curated catalog, remove them, rearrange them, and even create their own extensions from their favorite mobile websites.
