Texas A&M Opens Human Clinical Research Facility

Texas A&M University opened its new Human Clinical Research Facility on Tuesday, and the building will be home to some of the world's leading research and education in human health, performance, nutrition and well-being. The 21,518-square-foot facility has been developed to provide a centralized research facility for clinical researchers to conduct much-needed human clinical research trials. The building includes an exercise training and rehabilitation core to conduct supervised endurance and resistance-exercise based training and rehabilitation programs for healthy individuals or individuals with disease under medical supervision; an exercise physiology and body composition core for research in nutrition, exercise and clinical intervention assessments and research trials; a clinical research unit consisting of a 12-bed overnight stay unit to run 24/7 human clinical trials, a nurses' station and a metabolic kitchen for nutritional studies; a compounding unit to prepare medicines for human use; a mass spectrometry and analytical core for comprehensive in-depth analysis of metabolic, nutritional, and clinical markers; and an education unit to provide an open environment for education, collaboration, and student mentoring.
Texas A&M University Announces Executive Changes

Michael Fossum has been named a vice president of Texas A&M and COO of the Galveston campus. His position is effective March 1, 2017. Fossum replaces interim vice president and COO Douglas Palmer, who served in the position for the past eight months. The former astronaut also plans to work as an executive professor.
Texas AandM University Appoints M. Dee Childs as Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer

M. Dee Childs, who has more than 25 years of computer and related experience in higher education and the private sector, has been selected from a pool of over 300 candidates to the newly created position of vice president for information technology and chief information officer at Texas AandM University. Her appointment, effective Sept. 1, was announced Aug. 5 by University President Michael K. Young following confirmation of the appointment by The Texas AandM University System Board of Regents. She will report directly to President Young. Ms. Childs currently serves as associate provost and chief information officer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Childs has headed Alabama-Huntsville's information technology operations since 2012 and previously served at LSU for six years with her duties there being deputy chief information officer, executive director for user support and executive director for high-performance computing. Earlier in her career, she served as an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University and held several staff positions there.
