William Zarit Joins The Cohen Group as a Senior Counselor

The Cohen Group has announced that William Zarit, the former Minister for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, has become a Senior Counselor with the firm. He will be based in Beijing, China. While at the Embassy, Mr. Zarit managed the U.S. Government's trade promotion and policy activities across operations in several major cities including Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenyang. Other overseas postings included Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Deputy Senior Commercial Officer at the Embassy in Beijing, and Deputy Senior Commercial Officer at the American Institute in Taiwan. He also served as a Mandarin Chinese Interpreter for the State Department's Language Services, and currently is a member of the Board of Governors for the American Chamber of Commerce in China. Immediately prior to his Beijing posting, Mr. Zarit served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Operations in the U.S. Commercial Service, where he oversaw Commercial Sections in U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide.

The Cohen Group appointed Mark Brunner joins the firm as a Vice President. Since 2009, Mark has been the Senior Advisor to Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, focusing on national security and energy issues. Mark also served as the Director of the Senate India Caucus during Senator Warner's tenure as the Caucus Co-Chair. In this role, Mark helped Senator Warner double the membership in the Caucus and grow it to become the large country caucus in the U.S. Senate. Tom West joins the firm as an Associate Vice President after more than ten years in the State Department and the National Security Council. Tom has worked at the White House since 2012, serving for two years on the National Security Council as Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan, and more recently as Special Advisor to Vice President Biden. From 2011-2012, Tom served as the State Department's senior diplomat in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, where he managed the civilian staff of a U.S.-led Provincial Reconstruction Team and directed local oversight of development and reconstruction projects.
