Dell Software Announces Release of Dell Cloud Manager
Jul 20 15
Dell Software announced the newest release of Dell Cloud Manager, offering midsize-to-large enterprise businesses the power and confidence to easily manage the deployment and consumption of distributed cloud applications and services across the organization, all from an intuitive, single-pane-of-glass management console. Dell Cloud Manager v11 features new distributed blueprint support based on the TOSCA standard, simplifying portability and management of cloud applications and services throughout their lifecycle. New support for Windows Azure Pack and enhanced support for Microsoft Azure give Microsoft customers the first independent unified solution to centrally manage their combined private and public cloud environments. New automated scaling and recovery capabilities also provide added efficiency, helping to better satisfy service level requirements. Dell Cloud Manager provides a unified management console from which IaaS cloud services and applications can be easily managed and delivered - while adhering to governance requirements - giving users secure, fast access to the services they need to conduct business. In addition, role-based access controls allow the allocation of specific levels of access within one or more clouds to development, QA, and others - even external clients. The solution also balances the needs of developers and IT operations by giving IT the ability to manage cloud and cloud resource access, as well as track usage and spending, while developers gain self-service provisioning, access to a catalog of applications and the ability to connect to the tools they need, including native integration with Chef and Puppet. Cloud Manager helps business users contain costs by enabling the organization to estimate cloud costs before incurring them, and then track ongoing costs and limit spending according to specific budget requirements. Additionally, Cloud Manager enables application auto-scaling and auto-healing based on user-defined policies, resulting in more efficient use of cloud resources and more reliable application or service performance.

UC Command Suite delivers accurate insights into the already deployed various UC communication platforms - including which offices, departments, and cities are using specific platform features - to help businesses determine where to increase investment and where to eliminate platforms not being used. These insights help organizations better prioritize, anticipate capacity planning for the future environment, and enforce better communications and data loss prevention policies as they plan for their next migration path. Additionally, these UC insights help drive the cross-platform adoption and usage to realize the maximum return on investment. The company's UC Command Suite 8.1 offers a single solution to address evolving business needs. The company's UC Command Suite 8.1 is a future-ready solution that delivers a truly cross-platform unified communications analytics solution that provides significant insights and comparisons of usage trends and chargebacks across Office 365 Exchange Online, Exchange on-premises, Lync/Skype for Business, and even Cisco Unified Communications Manager. This single solution helps organizations make informed decisions about their evolving unified communications strategy, and better plan for business growth. As more organizations look to migrate to Office 365 and Exchange 2016, UC Command Suite enables them to plan for a successful migration with reduced risk by assessing their Exchange environment, and providing ongoing analytics on communication consumption, security policy adherence and workforce activity in the new environment tomorrow. UC Command Suite's newest features include: Office 365 native support: Enhances understanding and insights into Office 365 Exchange online environment. For organizations considering an upgrade from Lync to Skype for Business, UC Command Suite helps in the pre-migration stage with capacity planning and forecasting of usage for specific media to ensure the deployment is sized accordingly.
Dell Software Boosts Data Protection Capabilities with Enhancements to DR Series Deduplication Appliances
Apr 30 15
Dell Software announced the launch of a major update to its DR Series of deduplication appliances, including a host of performance and scalability upgrades, as well as the addition of encryption at rest capabilities, and VTL and NDMP backup support. As organizations of all sizes are tasked with protecting an ever-growing volume of data in a faster, safer and more efficient manner, the need for data protection solutions that save time and reduce risk is more important than ever. The latest update to the Dell DR Series of deduplication appliances gives customers the enhanced security, improved performance and increased flexibility needed to meet this challenge while implementing a comprehensive backup and recovery strategy. Dell’s DR Series of deduplication appliances includes the DR6000 for enterprise organizations, DR4100 for mid-sized companies, and DR2000v for remote offices. All DR Series appliances feature built-in, variable blocked-based deduplication and compression technology, enabling customers to speed backup and restore times while minimizing storage requirements by using a backup-to-disk appliance as the repository for protected data. In addition, one of the key tenets of the DR series is all-inclusive licensing and access to new features through software upgrades for existing customers. Key new features and capabilities in the latest release include: Performance and scalability upgrades " With the latest release of its DR Series technology, Dell has addressed customers’ need to tackle aggressive data growth by using 6TB drives to increase the maximum capacity of the DR6000 to 252 terabytes (TB) of usable capacity, making it one of the most dense disk backup target appliances on the market, and helping customers lower power and cooling costs in the process. The new release also boosts the DR6000’s ingest performance up to 25TB per hour. In addition, with delivery on the DR4100 of Rapid NFS and Rapid CIFS " the industry’s first source-side deduplication capabilities for NFS and CIFS backup " Dell has boosted its ingest performance up to 17TB per hour, a 150% performance increase. Encryption at rest " Dell’s DR Series appliances now include encryption at rest capabilities. With data security an increasing concern for most organizations, especially those in the healthcare, finance and government sectors who must meet stringent regulatory guidelines, the need to secure data at all points in the backup process is paramount. The addition of encryption at rest ensures data is encrypted both during the backup process and while stored on disk. For existing DR Series customers who download the latest software release, data already stored on their DR systems also can be encrypted, ensuring that all of their data is secured in a non-disruptive manner. VTL support " Many organizations still grapple with the challenges of entrenched legacy tape backup processes, with a large number of embedded applications still sending backup data to tape. With the introduction of VTL support capabilities, DR Series customers can now leverage disk-based virtual tape libraries as their backup target, improving the speed of backups and reducing the risk, cost, and complexity issues commonly associated with legacy tape backup processes. Additionally, DR Series appliances now also support VTL backups using Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM). NDMP support " The latest update also delivers network data management protocol (NDMP) support. The enhancement enables organizations currently backing up network attached storage (NAS) systems to save time and lower costs by sending data directly from their storage device to a Dell DR Series target appliance, thus freeing up network resources by using the standard NDMP protocol. This allows customers to move backups directly to the DR backup device, and frees up network resources. The Dell DR Series OS 3.2 is available now to all customers free of charge with latest software download. The DR Series appliances are available direct from Dell or through the channel.
