TELUS Communications Company to Invest $1 Billion in New Communications Infrastructure Across Ontario

TELUS Communications Company has announced plans to invest $1 billion in new communications infrastructure across Ontario through 2019. In 2016 alone, the company will invest $245 million in the province to enhance the speed, capacity and coverage of its wireless networks in both rural and urban communities, provide critical fibre optic connections to business clients, and further enhance its innovative offerings for Ontario businesses and healthcare providers.

TELUS Communications Company and Westbank Projects Corp. have announced the opening of TELUS Garden's office tower in Downtown Vancouver. Rich with innovative architectural, technological and environmental features, it is the first substantial office tower in Canada built to new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum standards. TELUS Garden's office tower also features: Vancouver's larger solar panel array on the office tower's rooftop, reducing reliance on conventional commercial electricity; rainwater capture systems to irrigate gardens throughout the development; 10,000 square feet of outdoor meeting space and garden terraces on six levels planted with a community food garden that will be tended by TELUS team members, indigenous trees and thousands of plants species; an iconic architectural canopy along Georgia Street that will provide coverage to the new public plaza that also features seating, music and a free Wi-Fi zone; and Vancouver's first cantilevered office spaces above city sidewalks, which enhance the office building's design while maximizing the use of vertical space. Additionally, TELUS Garden's office tower features a media facade that will display community programming including visual arts created by local students and arts organizations; a custom made Fazioli piano in the office building lobby for local musicians, beside an indoor koi fish pond; advanced building systems, which include a ventilation system providing fresh air to residents and workers, rather than the recycled air typical of towers; high-efficiency motion sensor lighting to significantly reduce energy consumption; charging stations for electric vehicles and bike storage, with showers for team members; and 450,000 square feet of new office space and 65,000 square feet of new retail space, including TELUS' 2,300 square foot retail store. Earlier this year, TELUS announced it will invest $4 billion building new infrastructure and facilities in British Columbia through 2018. When combined with operational expenses, this will bring TELUS' total investment in British Columbia over the next four years to more than $11.5 billion. By 2018, TELUS will have invested more than $47 billion in British Columbia since 2000 to further extend advanced telecommunications infrastructure and services, ensuring sustained innovation and fueling economic growth.

TELUS Communications Company Plans to Invest More Than $1.6 Billion in New Communications Infrastructure Across Quebec

TELUS Communications Company has announced plans to invest more than $1.6 billion in new communications infrastructure across Quebec through 2018. When combined with operational expenses, this will bring TELUS' total investment in Quebec over the next four years to more than $6 billion. This significant investment will result in TELUS having invested more than $23 billion in Quebec since 2000 to further extend advanced telecommunications infrastructure supporting sustained innovation and fueling economic growth. TELUS will continue to connect business locations and industrial parks directly to TELUS' fibre optic network to further stimulate economic growth. TELUS will also invest heavily in core areas of network, security, cloud computing and Internet-connected devices to facilitate Internet of Things (IoT) growth in Quebec, driving solutions that will enable all sectors to further their global competitive advantage, reduce environmental impact, and increase worker safety; and expand the capacity of TELUS' Intelligent Internet Data Centre in Rimouski to meet the growing demands of new and existing customers. TELUS will further grow the important role of TELUS Health, which currently provides electronic medical records to more than 14,000 Canadian physicians as well as health benefits management solutions to more than 9,000 pharmacies, 11,000 dental clinics and 25,000 extended healthcare providers across the country. TELUS will support quality, speedy and efficient health care with secure electronic health records holding details of patient encounters across a healthcare facility. Detailed information such as lab results, diagnostic images and medical procedures are available instantly to all authorized care providers throughout a hospital, including those in emergency rooms. TELUS currently provides this service for several health regions in Quebec including Montreal and Laval.
